Is Your Network Ready for the Storm?snowfall-15980_640

Tips for preparing your home for the coming snowstorm are all over the news.  What do you need to do to prepare your network to ensure that your business continues to run smoothly during and after the storm?  Consider these simple tips as you “batten down the hatches” for this weekend:

  • Reboot your systems. Likely, you will want to remote in to your office during the snow.  Rebooting your server, desktops and even your router will make a solid connection much more likely.
  • Power down and unplug any non-critical devices.  With the risk of potential power outages, anything that does not have to be plugged in should be unplugged from power outlets and other external connections.
  • Make sure all files have been backed up.
  • Take any needed files home with you on a jump drive.  If you hope to work from home during the snow, do not depend on having internet access to get to necessary files.
  • Don’t worry about the cold in regards to your computers.  While excessive heat can be damaging to your systems, the cold temperatures forecast for our area are not a risk to IT systems; so, if your office loses power, the cold won’t hurt your network.
